About the Illinois Courts Commission

The Illinois Courts Commission is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to serve as the Assistant General Counsel and Administrator (AGCA) in its Chicago office.

The AGCA will act as the Executive Director's deputy in the management of all aspects of the Commission, including legal, financial, and operational matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Director in conducting research on judicial disciplinary issues and writing memoranda for the Commissioners.
  • Prepare for pre-hearing conferences and hearings before the Commission and communicate with parties or attorneys of record in pending matters.
  • Attend pre-hearing conferences and hearings, help prepare draft orders and decisions, and act as the Commission's deputy clerk.
  • File-stamp documents, maintain the Commission's docket and records, and assist with seminars and CLEs on judicial discipline issues.
  • Process vouchers, monitor spending, and assist with budget preparations and reviews.
  • Process payroll, track employees' use of time off, and leave benefits.
  • Update the Commission's website, order office supplies, acquire IT support, handle mail, and communicate with the building staff.
  • Attend Commission meetings, take minutes, and distribute them to all Commissioners.

Requirements:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in Illinois.
  • Experience with lawyer or judicial disciplinary/ethical issues is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and electronic document formats is necessary.
  • Ability to problem solve and work with the Commissioners, staff members, and the public.
