This role involves assessing dietary needs, creating tailored care plans, and providing education to ensure that each Resident meets their nutritional and health objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with medical professionals to evaluate nutritional requirements, dietary restrictions, and existing health plans to formulate, implement, and document nutrition care strategies.
- Guide Residents and their families on nutritional guidelines, intervention strategies, dietary adjustments, and food preparation techniques.
- Oversee food service operations to ensure compliance with nutritional, safety, sanitation, and quality standards.
- Deliver nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy aligned with the Residents' health objectives.
- Assess, interpret, monitor, and document the nutritional status and needs of Residents following established care standards.
- Provide counseling to individuals and groups on essential nutrition principles, healthy eating practices, and nutrition monitoring to enhance their quality of life while respecting cultural preferences.
- Issue dietary orders as necessary.
- Investigate and address weight fluctuations in Residents, collaborating with nursing management to resolve issues and ensure weight goals are met.
- Act as a member of the interdisciplinary clinical team.
- Stay informed about individual care plans and contribute to the care planning process by attending meetings and recommending nutritional needs for Residents.
- Complete assigned MDS sections accurately and punctually.
- Adhere to established safety protocols while performing tasks and utilizing equipment and supplies.
- Effectively engage with Residents exhibiting various mental statuses.
- Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of Residents, interacting with them in a manner that conveys warmth, respect, and fosters a caring environment.
- Respond promptly and courteously to call lights when in Resident care areas.
- Communicate effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
- Uphold a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations, sharing information only on a need-to-know basis.
- Participate in meetings and in-service training as directed or scheduled, including continuing education required for professional certification or licensure.
- Understand and implement Infection Control protocols, including hand hygiene, isolation procedures, and recognizing signs of infection.
- Promote and protect Resident rights by supporting informed decision-making, treating Residents with dignity, safeguarding personal belongings, and reporting any suspected abuse or neglect.
- Perform additional tasks as required.
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Must be a Registered Dietitian, or Registered Eligible, or hold a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics.
- Completion of an accredited Dietetic internship program is preferred.
- One year of experience as a Registered Dietitian is preferred.
- Familiarity with LARA regulations is beneficial.
- Understanding of medical nutrition therapy in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to analyze issues and propose practical solutions.
- Ability to relate well to older adults.
- Strong organizational skills to manage assignments with minimal supervision.
- Collaborative mindset to work effectively with colleagues across the facility.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with families, volunteers, and the public.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Basic computer proficiency is required.
