Job Summary:

The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks a senior scholar to serve as the Director of Youth-Nex, the UVA Center to Promote Effective Youth Development. We are seeking a scholar with expertise in youth and digital technology with a focus on mental health who has demonstrated capacity for leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Youth-Nex Center and expand its portfolio of expertise and connections with the University's Youth and Digital Technology Grand Challenge.
  • Conduct research in partnership with schools or other youth-serving settings and translate research for practitioners.
  • Supervise staff to support research and community engagement and lead interdisciplinary teams.
  • Expand the University's sponsored research portfolio and teaching/training in an area of international importance.
Requirements:
  • Doctoral degree in psychology, human development, cognitive science, developmental science, education, public health, or a closely related discipline.
  • Record of active participation and leadership in interdisciplinary research and teaching environments.
  • Strong record of leadership, publications, influential scholarship, and sponsored research related to youth development, adolescent mental and behavioral health, and digital technology as it relates to adolescent well-being.
  • Explicit evidence of skills and experience related to advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for community-engaged and translational research.
  • Experience translating research for practitioners.
  • Experience advising and mentoring doctoral students and overseeing doctoral student research.
  • Strong relational and communication skills.
