The skilled Registered Nurse in the Critical Care environment operates autonomously while maintaining a comprehensive understanding of all pertinent aspects of patient care.
This role involves delivering both routine and intricate nursing care in alignment with established patient treatment protocols. The nurse will continue to enhance their capacity to manage the complexities inherent in clinical nursing. Responsibilities include appropriate delegation and assignment to other healthcare providers to effectively navigate clinical situations.Key Responsibilities:

- Provides nursing care in accordance with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, employing the nursing process which encompasses assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
- Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and their families in accordance with their level of practice.
- Administers medications and treatments per established protocols, monitoring for side effects and treatment efficacy.
- Accurately documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Evaluates learning needs and offers education to patients, family members, and caregivers; identifies issues and available resources.

- Utilizes critical thinking to assess the physical, psychosocial, social, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of patients and families.
- Communicates assessment findings to the healthcare team.
- Develops and adjusts care plans to meet individual patient needs based on evidence-based practices.
- Implements therapeutic procedures while monitoring and documenting patient progress.
- Conducts timely reassessments and maintains accurate documentation.
- Meets unit-specific competencies based on patient care requirements.
Patient Flow Management:
- Anticipates and plans for patient admissions, discharges, and transfers to enhance patient flow.
- Utilizes effective communication systems to facilitate discharge processes.
- Guides team members on tools and techniques for validating orders to ensure accuracy.
Unit Operations:
- Oversees nursing care and unit functions during assigned shifts.
- Practices good stewardship in the use and maintenance of medical equipment and supplies.
- Assesses staffing needs and actively participates in resource allocation.
- Educates others on operational standards, ethics, and regulations.
Commitment to Quality Care:
- Incorporates safety practices to foster a secure environment that leads to positive patient outcomes.
- Demonstrates accountability in nursing research and quality improvement initiatives.
- Delivers evidence-based nursing care and effectively communicates patient information across care settings.
- Maintains knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations to ensure compliance in practice.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Critical Care and another specialty (e.g., Medsurg, Telemetry, IMC, or Emergency); 5 years preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: BLS, ACLS, RN License in state of employment or compact, PALS within 30 days of hire, and de-escalation training within 30 days of hire.
Work Schedule:
