The primary role of the Material Handling Specialist is to facilitate production by managing the receipt and transportation of raw and packaging materials to designated areas. This position requires proficiency in general material handling tasks, particularly utilizing forklift machinery. The work environment is primarily indoors, with potential exposure to forklift emissions and various spice aromas. Collaboration and teamwork are essential to ensure adherence to material handling quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently transport raw and packaging materials to designated locations and ensure their return to appropriate storage areas.
  • Receive incoming raw materials and execute necessary inventory control procedures.
  • Accurately complete and manage inventory control transactions in accordance with company standards, including the use of barcode scanning and ticket printing.
  • Process returns of excess materials in line with departmental protocols, utilizing inventory management systems to update stock levels.
  • Maintain materials to promote FIFO (First In, First Out) product rotation.
  • Organize and store materials to keep warehouse and production areas tidy and orderly.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks in production and warehouse settings, including sweeping, trash collection, and handling damaged products.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient production and warehouse operations, meeting all material handling performance metrics.
  • Operate equipment safely and ensure it is maintained in good working condition by reporting any issues.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and Good Manufacturing Practices.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist in other roles within Materials Management as required.
  • Accurately log time and changes in cost centers using the time clock.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds on occasion.
  • Completion of material handling safety training and OSHA certification is required.
  • One year of experience in production or warehouse settings is preferred.
  • Forklift operation experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows is necessary.
  • Capability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Comfortable working in environments with dust and strong odors.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to understand and execute instructions provided in various formats.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required by production needs.
