Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Specialist to join our team at UNC Health Care. As an Accounting Specialist, you will be responsible for performing professional-level accounting and business functions in centralized Accounting offices or performing institutional functions in a department that are of an accounting or business nature.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and interpret financial and operational data, reports, and trends to make recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Format reports in easily understood tables or graphs to explain and support financial standings or operational decisions.
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives by interpreting data and making recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Communicate and interpret results of data analysis to other staff, insurance companies, outside agencies, vendors, etc.
  • Maintain and review various databases of financial information as received from various sources throughout the Health Care System.
  • Analyze and ensure integrity of data with regard to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or regulatory guidelines.
  • Bring anomalies and corrective guidance to the attention of appropriate individuals.
  • May provide daily operational or processing guidance to lower-level accounting support staff.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • No licensure or certification required.
  • Professional experience requirements vary depending on degree level.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule of 40 hours per week. The salary range is $19.11 - $27.16 per hour (hiring range). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.

This position is exempt from overtime and is a State position employed by UNC Health Care System with UNC Health benefits.
