The HR Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in providing hands-on support in areas such as recruitment, employee relations, and safety management. This position is responsible for a range of human resource functions, including benefits administration, workers' compensation, payroll processing, and the overall support of daily HR operations. The specialist will collaborate with managers and supervisors to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Utilizing diverse recruitment strategies to fill open positions as approved by management.
- Conducting screenings and interviews for potential candidates, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Coordinating background checks, physical examinations, and assessments for applicants, relaying results to HR leadership for hiring decisions.
- Acting as the liaison for Workers' Compensation claims, maintaining communication with the HR Manager throughout the process. This includes processing paperwork, notifying insurance providers, maintaining OSHA reports, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Managing various leave of absence programs including NYS PFL, FMLA, and NYS DBL.
- Tracking and ensuring timely performance evaluations for hourly employees.
- Facilitating Benefit Orientations and reviewing documentation for accuracy and timely processing.
- Understanding payroll operations and verifying the accuracy of weekly payroll and wage adjustments.
- Participating in safety committee meetings and documenting activities.
- Providing support to managers with employee relations matters.
- Communicating and implementing HR policies to ensure fair and consistent application.
- Maintaining employee bulletin boards with relevant information.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or PHR certification is advantageous.
- Three to four years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet applications; familiarity with PowerPoint is a plus.
- Experience with office equipment including personal computers, copiers, faxes, and multi-line phones.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and make informed decisions based on HR laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of current employment laws and regulations, with the ability to mediate between employees and supervisors.
- Familiarity with OSHA standards and protocols related to workplace injuries.
