Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Substitute School Health Professional to join our team at Dayton Public Schools. As a Substitute School Nurse Specialist, you will play a vital role in promoting student health, well-being, and academic success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Health Promotion and Education: Develop and implement health education programs to promote healthy behaviors and lifestyles among students.
  • Health Assessment and Intervention: Conduct health assessments, identify health problems, and provide referrals to appropriate agencies.
  • Immunization and Infection Control: Monitor and ensure compliance with Ohio State Law regarding immunization and infection control.
  • Emergency Response: Act as a first responder for medical emergencies and provide crisis intervention for students and their families.
  • Health Resource and Coordination: Serve as a health resource person, provide information on health issues, and coordinate care for students with chronic health conditions.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff to ensure seamless care coordination and support.
Requirements
  • Education and Licensure: Bachelor's degree in nursing and Ohio Board License- RN.
  • Certifications and Experience: Ohio Department of Education Licensure- School Nurse Certification or able to complete within two years of hire, CPR Certification, and minimum of three years of nursing experience.
  • Skills and Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in a team environment, and proficiency in using technology and software applications.
Work Environment

The work environment may expose the employee to blood-borne pathogens, student population with behaviors symptomatic of mental health issues or distractible behaviors. Students may have severe visual, hearing, orthopedic, or social awareness issues.
