Position Summary:
Responsible for delivering routine direct and indirect patient care in various healthcare settings under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.

Key Responsibilities:
1.

Assist healthcare providers during routine examinations and procedures, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies during emergencies.

2.

In psychiatric environments, support patients in reality orientation, engage in behavior modification plans, provide informal support therapy, and manage the therapeutic environment to meet patients' emotional and safety needs.

3.

Monitor, gather, and document patient information while providing care, promptly reporting any significant changes in patient conditions to a registered nurse or physician.

4.

Assist patients and their families during the admission process, orientation to the healthcare setting, and discharge.

5.

Administer care and treatments as outlined in the care plan, including vital signs measurement, specimen collection, skin preps, catheter care, and supportive interactions with patients and families.

6.

Provide direct personal care for daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility.

7.

Conduct indirect care tasks, including maintaining cleanliness in the work area, changing linens, restocking supplies, and assisting in the orientation of new staff and students.

8. Reinforce educational information provided to patients by healthcare professionals and document patient comprehension of instructions. Distribute educational materials as requested by patients or healthcare providers.

Additional Information:

Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

  • Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Professional Experience Requirements:

  • Preferably six (6) months of experience as a nursing assistant

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Proficient in verbal and written English and capable of developing basic computer skills

Compensation is determined by experience and internal equity.
