Position Title:
Paraprofessional, Special Education

Assists educators in addressing the educational, behavioral, and social-emotional requirements of students within the classroom and broader community.

Key Responsibilities:

The following tasks are representative of this role.

The absence of specific duty statements does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned.

  • In alignment with lesson plans created by the educator, provides small group and/or individualized instruction to students.
  • Aids educators with daily classroom management tasks aimed at ensuring that students exhibit behavior conducive to an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Supports educators in evaluating student performance (both standardized and non-standardized assessments) and other recordkeeping responsibilities.
  • Assists educators in the creation and organization of suitable instructional materials for student use and ensures these materials are ready prior to scheduled instructional periods.
  • Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of sixty semester hours or ninety quarter hours of college coursework completed with a GPA of 2.0 or higher from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited institution is required.

  • High school diploma/GED and a passing score on the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) Paraprofessional Assessment is required.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, PERMITS:

  • Must obtain a valid paraprofessional certificate approved by the Professional Standards Commission.
