Position: Educational Support Specialist, Special Needs
Assists educators in addressing students' educational, behavioral, and social-emotional requirements within the classroom and broader community.
Key Responsibilities: Supports students with physical necessities such as feeding, toileting, lifting, and mobility assistance. Facilitates health care tasks including hygiene and medication administration as required for daily support. Delivers small group and/or personalized instruction to students, following lesson plans created by the educator. Supervises students before and after school, as well as during non-instructional transition times. Aids educators in daily classroom management strategies aimed at promoting conducive learning behaviors. Assists educators in evaluating student performance (both standardized and non-standardized assessments) and other recordkeeping duties. Helps educators in the preparation and organization of suitable instructional resources for student use, ensuring availability prior to scheduled lessons. Performs additional tasks as assigned. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and successful completion of the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment, required. OR Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution recognized by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. OR A minimum of sixty semester hours or ninety quarter hours of college coursework completed with a GPA of 2.0 or higher from an accredited institution recognized by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Certificates, Licenses, or Permits: Must acquire a valid paraprofessional certificate approved by the Professional Standards Commission.
