JOB SUMMARY

Overall Responsibilities:
The Laboratory Operations Supervisor is accountable for the daily management of laboratory functions. This role involves keeping the Laboratory Director or Branch Manager updated on all laboratory requirements. The Laboratory Operations Supervisor oversees the scheduling of instrument calibrations, sample handling, and analytical tasks, while ensuring the integrity of original data for calibrations and quality control. Additionally, this position entails reviewing final reports and maintaining the physical condition of the laboratory. Arranging external support services and maintaining comprehensive records are also key responsibilities, including managing service contracts and subcontracting for sample analysis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific Responsibilities:

Enhancing and sustaining the quality management system. Regular oversight and evaluation of quality control data. Drafting corrective and preventative action reports related to laboratory operations and ensuring all records are maintained for review. Addressing non-conformances, investigating corrective measures, and executing appropriate corrective and preventative action plans. Ensuring accurate and technically sound analyses are conducted daily. Resolving technical challenges arising from routine analyses and consulting with the Laboratory Director on less common issues. Guaranteeing timely and precise laboratory Certificates of Analysis are issued. Coordinating and assigning laboratory tasks to personnel. Conducting analyses when necessary. Collecting, compiling, and validating data from laboratory tests, ensuring accurate documentation for all client quality control samples. Analyzing and summarizing quality control sample outcomes to confirm operational efficiency of processes and testing equipment. Providing explanations of specifications, methodologies, and results to internal and external clients as required. Delivering training to laboratory staff. Acting as a liaison between laboratory personnel and the Laboratory Director, as well as between laboratory staff and Operations. Managing laboratory equipment and supply inventory. Coordinating the repair or replacement of malfunctioning equipment and supplies. Understanding instrument calibrations and verifications, maintaining records according to schedule. Ensuring all necessary laboratory calibrations are executed.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Position Requirements:

One of the following educational and/or experience criteria must be satisfied: Bachelor's Degree in a technical field with 2 years of experience in a Petroleum Laboratory; Associate Degree in a technical field with 3 years of experience in a Petroleum Laboratory; or 5 years of experience in a Petroleum Laboratory. Demonstrated strong managerial, leadership, and interpersonal abilities. Effective communication skills with employees, external consultants, and management are essential. Experience in a Petroleum Laboratory must encompass analytical testing, instrument maintenance, instrument calibrations, quality control systems/procedures, and training protocols. A comprehensive understanding of industry-related safety and training is required. The candidate must exhibit the ability to quickly learn and implement new procedures.
