The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a prominent 501(c)3 grantmaking foundation, receiving substantial annual funding and governed by a bipartisan Board of Directors. This unique structure empowers NED to be a leading force in promoting freedom, enabling innovative and risk-taking support for democratic activists, civil society organizations, independent media, and core institutes dedicated to democratic values.
Position Overview:
The Compliance team is in search of an Auditor proficient in the Russian language to enhance the effectiveness of our mission. This role offers a chance to contribute to a dedicated team focused on supporting courageous partners engaged in the global struggle for democracy and freedom. The position is based in Washington, D.C.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct financial assessments of NED grantees in Eurasia and Europe, ensuring robust internal controls for grant compliance.
- Develop tailored monitoring plans based on risk assessments for each grantee, collaborating with Program and Grants Officers.
- Engage in monitoring activities, including internal control assessments and transaction reviews, in both English and Russian.
- Translate necessary documentation to facilitate effective monitoring, including audit reports and financial statements.
- Compile monitoring reports detailing observations, findings, and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Create training materials for financial management workshops aimed at NED grantees.
- Provide guidance through virtual and in-person financial workshops.
- Maintain accurate records in the Grants Management System.
- Support process innovation by participating in internal working groups focused on responsive monitoring strategies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, with increasing responsibility based on experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with OMB's Uniform Guidance and Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards.
- Advanced fluency in the Russian language (reading, writing, speaking).
- Experience with internal audit software is a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel occasionally, less than 10% of the time.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
