The full-time Freight Forwarding Operations Supervisor will be based in our Los Angeles office, leading a dedicated team of Import/Export Coordinators and Specialists within the Central Operations division. This role is crucial in maintaining Rock-It Cargo's esteemed reputation for excellence by overseeing the logistics of domestic and international transportation for various live performance touring projects. The Freight Forwarding Operations Supervisor will mentor, guide, and support the team in strategically identifying and securing optimal routes for each shipment, preparing and reviewing essential documentation, managing critical deadlines, and fostering enduring relationships with clients and vendors. In this capacity, you will recruit and nurture a team of enthusiastic logistics professionals, transforming them into freight forwarding specialists while driving the ongoing enhancement of Rock-It Cargo's Central Operations processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance to the operations team on researching optimal routes and executing bookings for domestic and international freight shipments.
- Supervise the team's management of import/export shipments across all transportation modes: air, trucking, and ocean.
- Review client manifests and transportation documents for accuracy, offering coaching to team members as necessary.
- Build and sustain customer and vendor relationships, acting as a point of escalation for urgent issues.
- Assist the team in collaborating with carriers, shippers, and consignees to ensure timely project completion.
- Train and develop members of the central operations team, ensuring adequate staffing and training for business continuity.
- Perform additional duties related to client projects and team management as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Freight Forwarding; experience in live event import/export operations is advantageous.
- 2-3 years of leadership experience managing a team of 5 or more; prior experience with freight forwarding operations teams is preferred.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry or military experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of freight forwarding practices; expertise in all types of import/export shipments (trucking, ocean, and air).
- A strategic thinker with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities, organize complex projects meticulously, and maintain a sharp attention to detail while managing time-sensitive issues calmly.
- Strong leadership, customer service, and vendor relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in basic Excel functions and a quick aptitude for learning new software applications.
- Willingness to travel and participate in on-call rotations.
- Ability to pass a security background check.
