Clinical Radiation Physicist

The Clinical Radiation Physicist plays a crucial role in developing and implementing external beam treatment plans, as well as interstitial and intracavitary implant plans as necessary. This position involves verifying initial calculations for all patients, assisting physicians with weekly chart evaluations, conducting CT planning scans, and performing routine machine calibration checks.
Key Responsibilities
Primary duties include:
- Verifying radiation dose calculations based on physician treatment prescriptions.
- Assisting in the design and fabrication of required molds.
- Preparing computer dosimetry plans under physician supervision and ensuring delivery as approved by the radiation oncologist.
- Checking simulation setups as needed for CT-assisted computer plans.
Education Requirements
A graduate from an accredited School of Medical Physics is required; a Master's Degree is the minimum, while a PhD or Doctoral candidacy is preferred.
Licensure and Certification
Certification in therapeutic radiological physics by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics is required.
Experience
A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of post-graduate experience as a Clinical Radiation Physicist is preferred, with a background in Radiation Safety, Diagnostic Medical Physics, Clinical dosimetry, and familiarity with Varian, Aria, and Eclipse operating platforms.
Physical Demands
This role requires standing, turning, bending, stooping, lifting, climbing, and performing various physical activities daily. Candidates must be able to stand for extended periods and walk without undue fatigue. Exposure to communicable diseases or radiation may occur.
Work Environment
Involves frequent physical exertion to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including individuals. The position requires repetitive motions, including substantial use of wrists, hands, and fingers while operating standard office equipment.
Mental Demands
Strong mental acuity and decision-making abilities are essential. Excellent communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with Dosimetrists, therapists, and radiation oncology physicians. A professional demeanor is expected at all times, with a commitment to confidentiality and integrity.
Special Requirements
Staying current with advancements in medical dosimetry and updates related to the ROCS Tx planning computer is essential. Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette are required, along with proficiency in computer usage and office technology.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities, and achieve goals. Highly developed organizational, planning, and management skills are crucial for success in this role.
