Position Overview
The Clinical Radiation Physicist plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of external beam treatment plans, as well as interstitial and intracavitary implant plans as needed. This position involves verifying initial calculations for all patients, collaborating with physicians during weekly chart reviews, conducting CT planning scans, and performing routine machine calibration checks.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate calculations of radiation doses in accordance with physician treatment prescriptions.
- Assist in the design and creation of necessary molds.
- Prepare comprehensive computer dosimetry plans under the guidance of the physician, ensuring all plans are executed as approved by the radiation oncologist.
- Verify simulation setups as required for CT-assisted computer plans.
Education Requirements
A graduate degree from an accredited School of Medical Physics is required; a Master's Degree is the minimum, while a PhD or Doctoral candidacy is preferred.
Licensure

Certification
Certification in therapeutic radiological physics by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics is required.
Experience
A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of post-graduate experience as a Clinical Radiation Physicist, with a focus on Radiation Safety, Clinical dosimetry, and familiarity with Varian, Aria, and Eclipse operating platforms is highly desirable.
Physical Demands
This role requires standing, turning, bending, lifting, climbing, and various physical motions as part of daily activities. The individual must be capable of standing for extended periods and walking considerable distances without undue fatigue. Exposure to communicable diseases or radiation may occur.
Daily tasks involve minimal physical exertion to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including individuals. Repetitive motions, including substantial use of wrists, hands, and fingers while operating standard office equipment, are common.
Effective communication is essential, requiring the ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction. The role demands clear communication skills to exchange ideas and detailed information in person and over the phone.
Mental Demands
The position necessitates strong mental acuity and decision-making capabilities. Superior communication skills are required to interact effectively with Dosimetrists, therapists, and radiation oncology physicians. A professional demeanor is expected at all times, with a focus on integrity, confidentiality, and clinical judgment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with emotional stability to manage high-stress situations. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is crucial, as is attention to detail and the capacity to multitask in complex scenarios.
Special Demands
Staying current with advancements in medical dosimetry and updates related to the ROCS Tx planning computer is necessary.
Exceptional customer service skills and professional etiquette are required. Proficiency in computer usage, including keyboard skills and familiarity with office technology, is essential.
The ability to work independently, adapt to workload demands, prioritize tasks, and set goals is critical. Highly developed organizational, planning, and management skills are necessary, along with a solid understanding of automated data processing and the ability to comprehend complex information quickly.
