Underground Construction Project Manager

Job Summary:

As an Underground Construction Foreman at Zito Media, you will be responsible for overseeing the completion of assigned projects within the agreed-upon timeline and in accordance with company policies. This role requires a strong understanding of underground construction principles, including the operation of machinery such as directional drills, trenchers, and backhoes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Operate and maintain underground construction equipment.
  • Supervise and assist underground construction technicians.
  • Monitor project progress and expedite or escalate as necessary to meet cost, quality, and schedule goals.
  • Provide daily project updates to the executive team.
  • Coordinate with the Director to prepare preliminary cost estimates and route proposals.
  • Coordinate work schedules to prioritize projects.
  • Identify underground proposed routes and obtain proper utility locates.
  • Identify right-of-way and permitting requirements for proposed routes.
  • Read and interpret construction documents, including prints, plans, and fiber splicing diagrams.
  • Supervise in-house and contractor resources.
  • Conduct pre-construction meetings.
  • Interface with customers to coordinate schedules, plans, and risks.
  • Accurately forecast resource requirements based on completion deadlines.
  • Conduct and manage quality control to ensure projects are executed safely and to specifications.
  • Forecast, order, and manage material procurement.
  • Obtain permits and licenses.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with local, county, state, and federal officials as needed.
  • Follow industry-standard construction standards.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of estimates, considering cost, materials, manpower, general conditions, schedule, insurance, etc.
  • Maintain all necessary underground equipment to prevent mechanical breakdowns.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned or as become evident.

Requirements:

Special Requirements:
  • High School Degree or better.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • At least 3 years of telecom industry experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of operating underground machinery, including directional drills, trenchers, backhoes, and locator beacons.
  • Knowledge of construction safety standards and OSHA requirements, as well as NEC and NESC codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and permits.
  • Proficient in using documents, spreadsheets, and other related software.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with Web Applications and/or GIS mapping software.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Willingness to travel with overnight stays.
  • Ability to lift and carry loads of 50 lbs or more.
