Position: Assistant Professor of Physics

Fresno Pacific University (FPU) is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistant Professor of Physics for a tenure-track position within our expanding STEM programs. Ideal applicants will demonstrate a strong teaching background, a commitment to scholarly activities, and an ability to foster diversity within the academic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in undergraduate physics courses, including both algebra-based and calculus-based series, as well as introductory physical science courses.
  • Design and develop curriculum tailored to the area of expertise.
  • Engage in scholarly research and promote collaborative student-faculty research initiatives.
  • Supervise undergraduate research projects and provide mentorship to students.
  • Advise students in their academic pursuits, particularly those majoring in applied mathematics or software engineering.
  • Maintain regular communication with students regarding their academic progress.
  • Keep accurate records of student performance and academic achievements.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related discipline.
  • Evidence of scholarly accomplishments or potential.
  • Proven excellence in teaching with a focus on enhancing student success.
  • Willingness to teach in various formats, including traditional, accelerated, and online courses.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, and staff in a collegial atmosphere.
  • Demonstrated passion for mentoring students.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and online learning platforms.
  • Commitment to the Christian mission of the university and active participation in a local church community.

Preferred:

  • Experience with computer-based algebra systems, particularly open-source platforms.
  • Programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C++ for problem-solving applications.
