- Prepare Reports and Recommendations: Prepare reports and recommendations based on engineering guidelines.
- Respond to Signal Malfunctions: Respond to signal malfunction alerts and citizen complaints.
- Verify Timing Plans: Verify that timing plans are set up correctly and modify traffic signal timings.
- Set Up Detector Diagnostics: Set up detector diagnostics and signals in the ATSPM application.
- Analyze Traffic Patterns: Analyze traffic patterns for special events, construction, and maintenance activities, and adjust signal timings to mitigate traffic congestion.
- Knowledge of VDOT Policies: Knowledge of VDOT, state, and federal policies and procedures relating to transportation engineering.
- Customer Service Skills: Ability to negotiate outcomes and work with diverse customer groups.
- Engineering Knowledge: Knowledge of engineering specifications and standards, project management procedures, and principles.
- Technical Skills: Experience applying engineering principles and practices, transportation management related computer programming, and microprocessor applicable to signalization.
- Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate technical information.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Signal Control Software Knowledge: Knowledge of signal control software applications, next-generation signal controllers, and signal controller cabinets.
- Combination of Training and Experience: A combination of training, experience, or education in engineering or a related field.
