Principal Specialist

Mott MacDonald is seeking a highly skilled Principal Specialist to lead our Civil Engineering Design team in North America. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional outcomes through the connected thinking of our 20,000+ talented consultants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical expertise in Civil Engineering design including utility, grading/earthwork, drainage, access road design, erosion and sedimentation control, infrastructure design, constructability evaluations.
- Prepare material quantities (cut/fill volumes, etc.) from the Civil 3D model files.
- Design to current codes and standards and lead with permitting and coordination from a technical perspective with regulatory agencies.
- Lead a team of designers and work with Project Managers and other discipline leads on Energy projects.
- Coordinate engineering/design execution, planning, and interface and ensure that activities are completed on schedule and within allotted task hours.
- Direct technical staff to work on appropriate tasks of the project while completing higher complexity tasks.
- Perform and execute technical drawings without supervision. Review and supervise drawings performed by others to ensure quality standards are met.
- Mentor and train junior design staff on drawings and design software's.
- Create and lead discipline-specific and company drafting standards.
- Utilize Civil 3D including alignments, profiles, and grading features to produce engineered construction plans with no oversight to solve complex designs.
- Coordinate with project engineers and other discipline engineers and ensure consistency in execution of project management activities.
- Manage and assign workload to design staff.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external teams of clients and team members.
Requirements:
- Hold an associates or higher degree or equivalent technical qualifications in CAD.
- Minimum of 12+ years' detailed general civil engineering design experience with includes experience in one or more of the following project types: site civil development, solar, roadways, pipelines, stormwater design.
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD (Civil 3D).
- Strong technical, communication, and design skills.
- Complete reviews of junior design staff.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and work with multi-disciplinary teams; and deal with complex issues and maintain effective working relationships.
