Position Summary:
The Healthcare Support Specialist is responsible for a variety of tasks within the medical facility. This role primarily involves assisting in the examination and treatment of patients under the supervision of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Family Nurse Practitioner. The Specialist will interact directly with patients and collaborate closely with the administrative staff, while also providing necessary front office assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
Under general oversight, the Healthcare Support Specialist's main duties include but are not limited to:
- Coordinating with clinicians to manage patient flow effectively.
- Assisting clinicians with medication and lab results as required.
- Escorting patients to examination rooms, conducting patient interviews, measuring vital signs (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and documenting information in patient records.
- Preparing examination rooms for patient assessments.
- Managing inventory and ordering medical supplies.
- Reviewing necessary forms prior to submission.
- Operating diagnostic equipment such as electrocardiographs (EKG) and scheduling tests as needed.
- Administering injections or treatments and conducting routine laboratory tests.
- Entering data into the computer system to maintain accurate office and patient records.
- Cleaning and disinfecting examination rooms in compliance with safety regulations.
- Sterilizing instruments according to established guidelines.
- Adhering to policies and procedures, including universal precautions as outlined by safety standards.
- Exhibiting strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with patients and colleagues.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with privacy regulations.
- Participating in mandatory meetings, training sessions, and educational programs.
- Ensuring compliance in communication with primary care providers and care plans.
- Coordinating and ordering vaccines as necessary.
- Documenting immunizations and maintaining accurate logs in the electronic health record system.
- Ensuring all records and charts are complete and accurate.
- Documenting temperatures of storage units for medical supplies.
- Demonstrating punctuality and reliable attendance.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant.
- Basic CPR (BCLS) Certification.
- Positive attitude, teamwork, and ability to follow directions.
- Understanding and promoting the mission and values of the health center.
- Sensitivity to the diverse needs of a multicultural population.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Exceptional customer service skills and capability to address patient concerns respectfully.
- Experience in a medical office or community health setting.
Language Skills:
- Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in English is required; Spanish proficiency is preferred.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
Equipment and Machinery: Proficient use of fax machines, copiers, computers, telephones, electronic health record systems, sterilization equipment, and other necessary tools.
Physical Demands: The physical requirements outlined here represent those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Work may involve standing or walking for approximately 50% of the time, with the remaining time spent seated. Occasional physical activities may include bending, climbing stairs, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead.
Constant physical activities include writing, typing, and manual dexterity. The role may require lifting or carrying items over 20 pounds occasionally and less than 10 pounds frequently.
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel may be necessary for site visits and meetings.
