About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Restoration Engineer to join our Riverscapes and Shorelines Team at WRA, Inc. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals who are passionate about restoring riverine and coastal systems that support healthy and resilient natural and human communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and conduct river restoration-related design projects, collaborating with other senior staff to propose on and win work with existing and new clients.
  • Train and mentor staff with diverse skill sets and backgrounds, promoting a culture of knowledge sharing and growth.
  • Manage projects from start to finish, including site selection, topographic and bathymetric surveys, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, ecological assessments, biological surveys, drafting, design, project management, bidding and construction support, performance monitoring, and adaptive land management.
  • Develop construction documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates for water resources projects, utilizing software such as HEC-HMS, TR-55, SWMM, WMS, HEC-RAS, MIKE, FHWA SMS, HY-8, and Hydraulic ToolBox.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop grant proposals, prepare financial models, partner with investors, and engage stakeholders, ensuring successful project delivery.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in civil or environmental engineering, or a related field, with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • A professional Civil Engineering license from the state of California or the ability to obtain within six months.
  • Familiarity with natural ecosystems and a thorough understanding of river restoration, with experience in hydrologic analysis, hydraulic analysis, and sediment transport modeling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with coworkers, mostly working remotely, and be physically capable of walking on rough, sloped terrain and licensed to drive for field visits and construction observations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with FEMA Floodplain Development (CLOMR/LOMR) permitting, with Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification a plus.
  • Graduate degree in engineering or physical sciences, with advanced training in stream restoration, watershed master planning, and business development.
