Job Description

SubCom is seeking a skilled Tradesperson Class 2 - Cable Handling/M2-Day to join our team. As a key member of our crew, you will play a critical role in the installation and maintenance of subsea fiber optic cables.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote job and process improvement through 5S and other initiatives.
  • Assist Forman with repeaters and splice boxes once on ship.
  • Run units (L&N tire hauler) efficiently and effectively to ensure safety of tank crew and cable.
  • Read and interpret shipload logs to ensure accuracy.
  • Set up quadrants and equipment on ship.
  • Manage container, Asset/Dev reel moving and setup.
  • Adhere to and direct compliance for loop out and test ends.
  • Operate track mobile for poly cars (poly cars daylight hours only).
  • Process and perform tasks safely and proficiently.
  • Rectify cables crosses.
  • Promote job and process improvement as it relates to the department.
  • Safely operate various powered industrial equipment.
  • Obtain and exercise knowledge of tank bites, placing strong back(s) on repeater(s) and torque down.
  • Communicate swiftly and precisely with inspection for impact-o-graphs.
  • Utilize hoist and slings safely and with great attention to detail.
  • Detect and rectify crosses in cable.
  • Ensure monorail switches are completed efficiently and are in proper operating order.
  • Complete quality records and present to Quality for accuracy.
  • Attach ends and half hitching with extreme proficiency.
  • Skilled in Dip Tank workings and able to complete impeccably.
  • Understanding of pier crane operations and able to guide crew in proper ground hand/arm signals.
  • Certified fork truck operator (within 90 days).
  • Have complete situational awareness of surroundings for self and crew at all times.
  • Respond to multiple production assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Overtime may be required, based on business need; regular attendance required.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Two or more years of related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and positive communication style.
  • Must be able to pass a mechanical and electrical aptitude test.
  • Math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Ability to read and interpret hand held measuring equipment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions.
  • Possess the ability to react to changes of responsibility throughout the day.
  • Must have the flexibility to respond to multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work any shift, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English fluently.
