Position Summary
We are in search of a passionate and fully bilingual (Spanish/English) Spanish Teacher who is driven and goal-oriented. Reporting Structure: Reports to the High School Director
Essential Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, Required
- Bachelor's degree in Spanish or a related discipline; Master's degree preferred
- New York State Teaching Certification for grades 7-12 or Special Education 7-12 (or an active Teaching Certification from another US state)
- Strong organizational skills with proficiency in data tracking and analysis
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with precision
- Proficient in technology; experience with Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google Docs/Drive
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills
- Demonstrated urgency and results-driven mindset
- Open to feedback and committed to ongoing professional development
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Duties
- Design and implement a rigorous Spanish and Foreign Language curriculum that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Create engaging lesson plans aligned with the American Dream curriculum standards.
- Maintain high behavioral expectations and consistently apply the school's behavior management strategies.
- Utilize assessment data to inform instruction and ensure mastery of learning objectives.
- Employ a co-teaching model to effectively support diverse learning needs.
- Foster a sense of urgency in the learning environment.
- Assist in the administration and evaluation of assessments and assignments.
- Develop meaningful interim assessments to prepare students for success in standardized testing.
- Keep accurate records and generate reports as needed.
- Establish a welcoming and inclusive classroom atmosphere, utilizing Responsive Classroom practices.
- Take responsibility for the academic progress of students and proactively address challenges.
Advisory Role
- Act as an advisor for a group of students, supporting their academic and personal growth.
- Provide guidance on college and career readiness, including requirements for graduation and the Seal of Biliteracy.
- Serve as the primary contact for parents/guardians of advisees.
- Collaborate with fellow educators to plan community meetings and develop a robust advisory curriculum.
- Encourage and motivate students to complete their assignments.
- Document interventions for students at risk of promotion challenges.
Student Support Services
- Prepare academic performance reports for staff and administration.
- Provide individualized tutoring and support for students.
- Set annual goals for students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Monitor and report on the progress of IEP goals related to the content area.
- Participate in IEP conferences as required.
- Establish appropriate goals and implement necessary modifications for each student.
Additional Professional Responsibilities
- Teach an elective course or assist with credit recovery programs.
- Engage in collaborative planning and professional development activities.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences regarding student progress.
- Supervise students in various settings, ensuring adherence to school values and policies.
- Instruct students on the proper use and care of educational materials.
- Assist with lunch supervision as needed.
- Contribute to the professional growth of colleagues through peer observations and feedback.
- Support the efficient operation of the school by fulfilling administrative duties and maintaining open communication with staff.
- Showcase student work through bulletin boards and other displays.
- Engage in regular peer observations to enhance teaching practices.
