Job Summary

The Lutheran Social Services of New York - Safe Haven is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Bilingual Teaching Assistant to support our educational programs. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with our teachers to provide a basic education curriculum to young persons in our shelter program, including beginning English.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper supervision of students during school hours, maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Assist classroom teachers in preparation, implementation, and evaluation of daily lesson plans, as directed.
  • Monitor and record student progress in our program database, identifying areas for improvement and providing support as needed.
  • Facilitate classroom instruction, covering for teachers as assigned, and providing lessons as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, supporting the overall success of our educational programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with 3 years of TA experience or a Bachelor's degree in Education or another behavioral science.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a foster care agency or a related human services agency.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with classroom teachers and other staff, supervising students in a school setting.
  • Strong interest in working with immigrant youth and a willingness to be involved in a program of professional development.
