As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Dietitian is responsible for the nutritional management of patients. This role involves the planning, assessment, implementation, and evaluation of individualized nutritional care plans.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mentor and guide fellow team members in clinical practices.
2. Conduct thorough interviews with patients and their families to gather nutritional histories and preferences, ensuring accurate documentation in medical records.
3. Perform comprehensive nutritional assessments and develop tailored care plans, collaborating with medical staff for optimal patient outcomes.
4. Recommend dietary modifications and supplemental feeding options to physicians, ensuring precise execution of diet orders.
5. Provide nutritional education and counseling to patients and their families, aligning with prescribed dietary guidelines.
6. Calculate nutrient content for tube feedings and dietary intakes as per physician directives.
7. Contribute to menu adjustments based on patient preferences and assist in the creation of standardized recipes, while overseeing food service staff in proper food handling and portion control.
8. Support clinical operations by assisting team members and management in daily tasks.
9. Facilitate individual and group educational sessions, referring clients to community resources as necessary.
10. Actively participate in wellness initiatives promoted by Northwell Health.
11. Establish effective communication channels regarding nutrition information within the program and the broader community.
12. Provide in-service training to culinary and interdisciplinary teams on therapeutic diets and related subjects.
13. Engage in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities, including data collection and execution of related tasks.
14. Address operational challenges and technical issues, escalating them to senior staff as needed.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field is required.
Current Registered Dietitian Certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration is mandatory.
Certification as a Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN) is preferred.
Advanced or specialized certifications may be required.
1-3 years of relevant experience is essential.
