Position Overview
The selected attorney will engage in matters concerning environmental regulations, compliance assessments, and advisory services within a dynamic and collaborative legal environment. Responsibilities will also include managing various administrative law cases as designated.
- Full-time position
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited institution, with an active bar membership
- Active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction
- U.S. citizenship is mandatory (dual-national U.S. citizens are eligible)
- Relocation to the Washington, DC metropolitan area is required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Capable of completing security and medical evaluations
The Office of General Counsel (OGC) at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) offers legal guidance and policy advice to the Director of the CIA and other agency officials on a wide range of legal matters, including national security law, procurement law, employment law, government ethics, fiscal law, general administrative law, privacy rights, and legislative affairs.
Key Responsibilities
As an Environmental Law Attorney, you will:
- Provide legal counsel and policy advice to CIA leadership on intricate legal issues that impact the agency's operations under various authorities.
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on sensitive topics.
- Deliver training on numerous laws and policies relevant to CIA personnel.
- Foster productive relationships with other elements of the Intelligence Community, federal agencies, and congressional committees to advance the CIA's mission.

Qualifications
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in environmental law practice
- Proven experience with key environmental statutes, such as the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (Superfund), and the National Historic Preservation Act
- Familiarity with the Occupational Safety and Health Act is preferred but not mandatory
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to evolving demands and situations

Additional Desired Qualifications
- Experience in environmental permitting, enforcement, and litigation.
- Prior experience in private practice or federal government environmental law.
- Proven ability to provide well-researched, clear, and definitive legal advice on complex matters.
