Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Specialist Pharmacist, you will:

  • Deliver expert consultation and guidance on medication use in the ICU.
  • Collaborate with critical care physicians and surgeons to ensure comprehensive patient care through inpatient ICU rounds and multidisciplinary care planning.
  • Enhance patient outcomes in critical conditions by implementing evidence-based, patient-centered pharmacotherapy and monitoring for drug-related issues and cost containment.
  • Provide pharmacokinetic consultations as necessary.
  • Identify, document, and report adverse drug reactions and medication errors.
  • Evaluate drug therapy for appropriateness, dosage, and potential interactions.
  • Communicate ongoing patient information and treatment efficacy to all healthcare providers.
  • Conduct educational sessions for the critical care team and related staff, as well as patient and caregiver education regarding medication therapy.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary committees, protocol development, and the education of pharmacists, nursing staff, and physicians.
  • Coordinate patient care issues and therapy recommendations with pharmacy staff.
  • Support research initiatives within the specialty team as needed.
  • Lead quality improvement projects in your area of expertise.
  • Participate actively in specialty team meetings focused on discharge management, research, and educational conferences.
  • Stay updated on evolving protocols and clinical pharmacy standards relevant to critical care.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • A degree from a Pharmacy program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.
  • Completion of a Post-Year Graduate 2 (PGY2) residency in a specialty area and board certification within 12 months of hire; OR a Post-Year Graduate 1 (PGY1) residency with at least two years of post-licensure experience in specialty practice activities and current board certification; OR a minimum of four years of post-licensure experience with at least 50% in specialty practice activities and current board certification if no residency training is completed.
  • Preferred experience in specialty areas such as Transplant, Infectious Disease, or Hematology/Oncology.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, federal, and state regulations governing pharmacist practices in acute care settings.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Proficiency in applying professional pharmacy methods and techniques.
  • A current license from the state pharmacy board.
  • Active board certification in the specialty area (PGY2 candidates must obtain certification within 12 months of hire).

Compensation Details

The annual salary ranges from $127,316 to $191,027.
