Clinical Access Coordinator

Parkside is a 120-bed, private, non-profit psychiatric facility that also offers outpatient services. Our departments collaborate closely to deliver exceptional patient care. The Clinical Access Coordinator is tasked with engaging with potential clients to assess clinical circumstances, focusing on identifying clinical risk factors. This role assists law enforcement, family members, and others throughout the admission process, whether voluntary or through emergency detentions. The Coordinator makes referrals to community resources as necessary and assigns individuals in need of treatment to the suitable outpatient program while coordinating inpatient admissions with the medical staff.

Key Responsibilities: Clinical Access Coordinator
  • Conducts Access Intake Screenings for assigned patients/clients promptly, demonstrating excellent interviewing, diagnostic, and documentation skills.
  • Handles telephone triage responsibilities and provides Access options for individuals seeking assistance.
  • Interviews patients/clients, family members, and others to determine the triggering event and the extent of disruption experienced by the individual.
  • Fosters a calm and trusting atmosphere for every individual presenting in crisis.
  • Gathers information to mitigate the adverse outcomes of a crisis situation.
  • Facilitates the emergency detention process through interviews and the preparation of necessary legal documents.
  • Delivers care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient/client, including pediatric, geriatric, and general populations.
  • Prepares documentation and discusses the individual's Intake Screening with the admitting physician, who provides the admitting diagnosis. Completes individualized documentation required for the medical record and third-party payer sources.
  • Summarizes the Intake Screening and connects patients/clients to the appropriate level of care.
  • Acts as a patient and family advocate at all times.
  • Ensures the safety and security of individuals within the department.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of community resources and keeps a supply of resource materials available for patients as needed.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that prioritizes patient safety and minimizes the risk of medical/health care errors.
  • Consults with other departments as needed to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs. Serves as a resource for facility staff members and acts as a liaison between patients, referral sources, agencies, schools, etc.
Qualifications for Clinical Access Coordinator
  • Master's Degree in a behavioral health field.
  • At least one year of experience in a behavioral health setting.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Training in Aggression Management and Trauma-Informed de-escalation techniques.
  • Documentation must be cosigned by the appropriate licensed individual.
