POSITION OVERVIEW
This role is responsible for overseeing, managing, and directing the designated responsibilities and functions that contribute to the operational and financial success of the clinical laboratory across multiple locations, including a Level 2 Designated Trauma Center and at least one medium to large facility. All activities are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as applicable professional guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Oversees personnel actions including recruitment, onboarding, interviewing, and selection of new team members, salary determinations, training, and performance evaluations. Establishes work goals and objectives for the laboratory, cancer center, and outpatient clinics in alignment with organizational goals; provides leadership, feedback, and motivation to ensure staff achievement of departmental objectives across various facilities. The goals and objectives at each location are tailored to that specific site; the ability to support diverse goals is essential.

2. Leads, facilitates, and/or participates in committees or councils to plan, implement, and coordinate programs and activities for the organization. Exemplifies and upholds the values and ethical standards of LSA/SQL and Banner Health Performance Standards.

3. Manages the operations and workflow processes in alignment with LSA/SQL's strategic objectives and Banner Health's initiatives. Develops and reviews performance metrics and actively participates in Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt Teams to ensure quality service. Accountable for maintaining laboratory accreditation, licensure, and compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies. Ensures all facilities adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

4. Collaborates with the Director/Sr. Director on the laboratory budget in conjunction with hospital and integrated laboratory goals. Effectively manages resources to meet budgetary expectations. Focuses on all expenditures and analyzes budget variances.

5. Acts as a communication liaison for the Integrated Laboratory System. Engages with physicians, nurses, clients, system staff, and other healthcare professionals. Communicates effectively regarding technical and operational matters, utilizing appropriate verbal and written communication skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, business, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a managerial role in any industry.
  • A comprehensive understanding of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures related to various software programs and laboratory sciences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Green Belt Certification
  • Master's Degree
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology
  • Certification as a medical technologist under ASCP, NCA, or equivalent as defined under CLIA '88 regulations.
