Position Title: 2nd Class Fireman

Position Overview: The 2nd Class Fireman will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the boiler plant under the supervision of a licensed Massachusetts 3rd Class Stationary Engineer. This role involves performing significant repair work and executing preventive maintenance tasks as required. Regular communication with clients and tenants is essential, along with generating necessary logs and reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a valid 2nd Class Fireman license (MA).
  • Operate valves and related HVAC components efficiently.
  • Ascend ladders up to 20 feet while maintaining balance for repairs.
  • Possess knowledge of HVAC systems for effective servicing and repairs.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and tenants, both verbally and in writing.
  • Manage boiler plant operations, including:
    • Calculating utility usage and monitoring steam levels.
    • Assisting licensed tradespeople as needed.
    • Reporting defective equipment to supervisors.
    • Maintaining accurate time records.
    • Submitting logs and reports for all completed work.
    • Repairing and troubleshooting gas and oil-fired burners, HVAC systems, and associated controls.
    • Conducting regular inspections of boiler plant equipment and maintaining accurate logs.
    • Ensuring safe working conditions and reporting any safety issues to supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years of direct experience in boiler operations and maintenance.
  • State-issued 2nd Class Fireman License.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, complemented by excellent customer service abilities.
