Position Overview: The Medical Records Release Specialist plays a crucial role in managing Release of Information (ROI) requests for patient medical records at designated client locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to inquiries from medical staff and support personnel regarding medical records or patient identification.
  • Accurately log medical record requests into the MRO database.
  • Assess and determine which records to release by verifying requestor information in compliance with HIPAA regulations and gathering necessary patient data from various sources, including electronic and physical records.
  • When necessary, assist walk-in clients seeking ROI information and document the details in the MRO database.
  • Prioritize and process requests from physician offices, ensuring timely faxing of information as needed.
  • Adhere to site-specific policies and regulations.
  • Manage cash payments for requests at designated locations when required.
  • Report any issues to management that may hinder the prompt release of records.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Previous experience in Release of Information within the Medical Records field is essential.
  • Proficient in computer applications with at least one year of data entry experience.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with a proven ability to address customer inquiries effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with a history of dependability in the workplace.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and knowledge of HIPAA regulations is advantageous.
