Ophthalmic Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Southgate Surgery Center. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing excellent patient care and assisting our ophthalmologists in delivering high-quality eye care services.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in monitoring vital signs and transporting patients
- Maintain aseptic technique at all times
- Observe for any break in technique
- Care properly for contaminated items
- Assist in stocking OR supplies
- Stock and maintain adequate inventory of surgical supplies
- Check equipment, such as sterilizer, refrigerator temperature, etc. each surgical day and document on monthly log sheet
- Assist each area as requested
- Assist in pre-op assessment
- Discontinue Hep-Locks
- Assist in post-op instruction review with patient
- Act under the direct supervision of the nurse
- Perform fingerstick blood sugar
- Documentation in medical record of results (i.e., BS, VS, etc.)
- Assist physician during laser procedures
- Report pertinent observation and reactions regarding patients to the nurses and/or physician
- Identify patient and family teaching needs and initiate intervention to meet needs
- Maintain and promote a positive, safe environment for patients and co-workers
- Assist with or initiate emergency measures for sudden adverse development in patient's condition
- Monitor levels of inventory in accordance with desired quantities
- Attend departmental meetings and in-service education and show responsibility for own professional practice and on-going education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) is preferred
