Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Southgate Surgery Center. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our ophthalmologists in delivering high-quality eye care services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in monitoring vital signs and transporting patients in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain aseptic technique at all times, observing for any break in technique and taking corrective action as needed.
  • Care for contaminated items and assist in stocking OR supplies.
  • Check equipment, such as sterilizers and refrigerators, and document any issues on a monthly log sheet.
  • Assist in pre-op assessment, discontinuing Hep-Locks, and providing post-op instruction review with patients.
  • Act under the direct supervision of the nurse and perform fingerstick blood sugar checks.
  • Document results in the medical record and report any pertinent observations or reactions to the nurses and/or physician.
  • Identify patient and family teaching needs and initiate interventions to meet those needs.
  • Maintain a positive, safe environment for patients and coworkers.
  • Assist with emergency measures in the event of a sudden adverse development in a patient's condition.
  • Monitor inventory levels and participate in economical utilization of supplies and medication.
  • Attend departmental meetings and in-service education, taking responsibility for your own professional practice and ongoing education.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) is preferred.
