Position Overview:

The role is pivotal in steering all health, safety, and environmental strategies within the plant. This position entails conducting safety assessments, executing safety and environmental standard operating procedures, and ensuring adherence to corporate policies and objectives. The individual will act as the primary advocate for all HSE matters, ensuring that all operational roles comply with their legal and local responsibilities while overseeing all aspects of HSE regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain CHEP's Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Systems, ensuring regular reviews of the safety processes and addressing corrective actions promptly.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through systematic changes informed by data analysis and root cause investigations of incidents and environmental events.
  • Supervise the daily HSE responsibilities of team members, ensuring that performance standards are achieved.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to provide support and direction for team members regarding performance issues, goal setting, and professional development.
  • Develop effective strategies to engage all stakeholders at both the plant and individual levels.
  • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of the CHEP Behavior Observation System.
  • Coordinate the Plant OHS&E Action Plan to meet compliance targets.
  • Lead investigations into incidents to actively reduce the plant's Total Injury Frequency Rate (TIFR).
  • Facilitate investigations into significant near misses and communicate findings across the network.
  • Encourage open discussions around Zero Harm during plant meetings.
  • Regularly update plant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on the iCare platform.
  • Ensure accurate and timely input of all plant data into the iCare system.
  • Monitor supervisory practices regarding health, safety, and environmental issues.
  • Ensure prompt and consistent responses to all OHS&E-related matters.
  • Communicate and document any changes to OHS&E procedures or management systems.
  • Inform plant leadership of any updates to health and safety standards.
  • Assess and identify safety training requirements on-site.
  • Continuously seek to enhance OHSE standards within the plant and across the network through evaluation and best practice sharing.
  • Ensure compliance with legal obligations and stay updated on new legislation affecting the plant.

  • Injury Frequency Rates (BIFR, TRIFR)
  • Compliance with safety standards (GAP)
  • Fire Risk and Security assessments
  • OHSAS 18001 certification
  • Site Environmental Management Plan effectiveness

  • Manage budget within approved limits.
  • Assume delegated responsibilities for Zero Harm in the absence of the Plant Manager.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate; Technical degree; Safety Level 1; Environmental Level B; NEBOSH Diploma; Environmental qualification.

Training:

  • Auditing; ISO 9001; ISO 14001; ISO 45001.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years in a Health, Safety, and Environmental role.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Experience in leading and implementing HSE programs.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proven experience in a high-volume, target-driven manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to manage processes and motivate a team.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and incident investigation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of State and Federal Environmental and Safety regulations.

Base salary starting at $79,000 annually.
