About the Indiana Veterans' Home:

The Indiana Veterans' Home, situated in West Lafayette, Indiana, was established to provide care for veterans dating back to the Civil War, welcoming its first resident in 1896. Spanning over 250 acres, IVH is a full-service care facility that offers a comprehensive range of services for its residents.

The mission of the Indiana Veterans' Home is to honor Indiana's veterans and their spouses by delivering the highest standard of care in a therapeutic, home-like setting, enhancing health and ensuring optimal quality of life. To achieve this, we provide compassionate and comprehensive skilled care while integrating arts and cultural programming and preserving the rich history of the Home.

Compensation:

The salary for this position typically begins between $94,000 and $114,400.00.

Key Responsibilities:

The essential duties of this role include:

  • Organizing and prioritizing daily patient care.
  • Assigning patient care responsibilities and collaborating with clinical staff to develop treatment plans.
  • Conducting ongoing assessments and documenting patients' physical and psychosocial conditions from admission to discharge.
  • Guiding support staff to coordinate unit workflow and addressing issues with the Charge Nurse Supervisor.
  • Administering medications and treatments in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Creating and implementing nursing care plans for any changes in nursing diagnosis or treatment plans.
  • Overseeing medication administration and maintaining clinical observation notes for support staff.
  • Completing necessary documentation, including nursing notes and transfer forms.
  • Educating patients and their families about medications, procedures, and treatment objectives.
  • Responding to emergencies and managing agitated patients.
  • Providing orientation and support to staff and the unit.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety and infection control standards within the unit.

Qualifications for Success:

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Current license to practice nursing in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certification in CPR.
  • Current knowledge of behavioral intervention training.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and the ability to learn new programs for electronic medical records.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply medical and facility terminology.
  • Competence in using MS Office applications and electronic patient records.
  • Capability to advocate for patients.
  • Understanding of nursing and facility policies and procedures.
  • Additional knowledge or skills may be required based on the specific population served, such as children, adolescents, or geriatrics.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position may involve supervisory duties based on agency requirements.
