About the Indiana Veterans' Home:
The Indiana Veterans' Home, located in West Lafayette, is dedicated to honoring Indiana's veterans and their spouses by providing the highest level of care in a therapeutic, home-like environment. Our mission is to enhance health and quality of life through compassionate and comprehensive skilled care, integrating arts and cultural programming while preserving the rich history of the Home.
Key Responsibilities:The essential functions of this role include:
- Organizing and prioritizing daily patient care.
- Assigning patient care tasks and collaborating with clinical staff to develop treatment plans.
- Conducting ongoing assessments and documenting patients' physical and psychosocial status from admission to discharge.
- Directing support staff to ensure efficient workflow and addressing issues with the Charge Nurse Supervisor.
- Administering medications and treatments in accordance with hospital policies.
- Creating and implementing nursing care plans based on nursing diagnoses or treatment plan modifications.
- Supervising medication administration and clinical observation notes for support staff.
- Completing required documentation, including nursing notes and transfer forms.
- Educating patients and families on medications, procedures, and treatment objectives.
- Responding to emergency situations and managing agitated patients.
- Providing orientation and support to staff within the unit.
- Ensuring compliance with safety and infection control standards.

Qualifications for Success:To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Current license to practice nursing in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse.
- Certification in CPR.
- Current knowledge of behavioral intervention training.
- Proficiency in computer skills and the ability to learn electronic medical record systems.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to comprehend and apply medical and facility terminology.
- Familiarity with MS Office applications and electronic patient records.
- Capability to advocate for patients.
- Knowledge of nursing and facility policies and procedures.
- Additional knowledge may be required based on the specific population served.
