Overview and Key Responsibilities

Kanaan Communications is actively looking for skilled Fiber Splicer Technicians.

Position Summary:

The ideal Fiber Splicer will be tasked with the meticulous preparation and splicing of fiber optic cables within a telecommunications framework. This role necessitates a solid understanding of telecommunications network architecture, as well as familiarity with fiber optic cables, splice enclosures, and their operational characteristics. Candidates should be adept in using OTDR and fusion splicing tools, possess the ability to read fiber matrices, interpret and analyze data, and effectively identify and resolve issues.

Key Duties:

Execute both low-level and high-level labor-intensive tasks while operating designated construction machinery. Prepare daily production reports to document completed work. Utilize hand tools, ladders, and equipment to facilitate project completion. Maintain cleanliness and organization of supplies, tools, equipment, and workspaces to ensure adherence to safety standards. Required Qualifications

$3,000 Sign-on Bonus available for candidates with a minimum of 12 months of Fiber Splicing experience and proven technical expertise.

At least 2 years of experience in fusion fiber splicing. 1-2 years of experience in FTTH, rDOF, and/or long-haul fiber matrix. 1-2 years of experience with various fiber sizes (ranging from flat to 96 ct + fiber sizes). 1 year of experience in fiber testing and troubleshooting using OTDR, OLTS, Light Meter, and/or fiber fault (VFL). Proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment (including wrenches, drills, ladders, lanyards, forklifts, saws, etc.). Skilled in operating telecom construction machinery (such as aerial lifts, dozers, lashers, meters, plows, etc.). Experience with both ribbon fiber and loose tube, including deribbonizing and ribbonizing (preferred). Successful completion of pre-employment background checks, motor vehicle checks, drug tests, and DOT physical exams, resulting in a valid medical card. High School Diploma or GED required. Must hold a valid Chauffeur's License.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Ability to climb in and out of various equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.). Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 80 lbs. regularly, with or without assistance. The role involves sitting, bending, using hands and fingers for handling, and reaching in both high and low spaces, as well as standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding, or stooping during shifts. Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, and hard hats. Remote work may be necessary, requiring long periods of driving and sitting. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus as needed. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. All work is conducted outdoors, exposing employees to various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, sleet, and dust, as well as challenging driving conditions such as wet or icy roads and fog.
