Preparedness and Epidemiology Support Specialist

The Preparedness & Epidemiology Support Specialist will provide routine administrative functions and professional assistance in support of the Preparedness & Epidemiology program. This position will assist with budgeting, purchasing, and tracking of supplies/equipment, as well as collect and enter data on notifiable conditions into databases and coordinate data sharing as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform administrative support functions for the Public Health Preparedness & Epidemiology program, including answering and triaging program phone calls, assisting with preparation and tracking of program budgets, and monitoring purchases of supplies and equipment.
- Enter data on notifiable conditions in programmatic and state databases, receive, triage, and record incoming confidential notifiable condition reports, and maintain and retain confidential records in accordance with DSHS record retention policies.
- Participate in public health preparedness projects, planning, activities, meetings, and documentation, record and retain meeting notes in accordance with record retention policies, and contribute to the development, writing, interpretation, and implementation of public health preparedness guidelines, protocols, and plans.
- May respond to a Public Health emergency, including a bioterrorism event, disease outbreak or disaster anywhere in state, and assume an active role in the regional incident command structure during public health emergencies and/or exercises.
- Knowledge of Public Health, transmission and control of infectious diseases, medical terminology and laboratory tests, and public health preparedness and emergency response in Texas.
- Skills in data entry, budget tracking using spreadsheets, writing and editing, preparing and presenting complex oral and written information and training to a variety of audiences in a clear, effective manner, problem solving, and working with computer applications (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, Access).
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with public and private providers, local officials, stakeholders, and other community groups, explain complex information at an appropriate level for individuals and groups, understand, interpret, and implement policies and procedures, function independently, problem solve, and exercise professional judgment, work on a team, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, prioritize workload and meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
