Job Title: Vaccine Preventable Disease InvestigatorJob Summary:

This position plays a critical role in the regional epidemiology and surveillance activities, working under the supervision of the Regional Epidemiologist. The Vaccine Preventable Disease Investigator will participate in the investigation of vaccine-preventable infectious diseases, enter data on notifiable conditions in programmatic and state databases, and perform administrative support functions for Public Health Preparedness & Epidemiology and Immunizations programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enter data on notifiable conditions in programmatic and state databases, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Conduct investigations of vaccine-preventable infectious diseases, collaborating with healthcare providers, laboratories, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform administrative support functions, including purchasing, budget tracking, and answering phones.
  • Participate in public health preparedness projects, planning, and activities, contributing to the development of guidelines, protocols, and plans.
  • Respond to public health emergencies, assuming an active role in the regional incident command structure.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of public health principles, including transmission and control of vaccine-preventable and other infectious diseases.
  • Skills in data entry, writing, and editing, as well as problem-solving and communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with public and private providers, stakeholders, and community groups.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
Work Environment:

This position is based in Public Health Region 7, which covers 30 counties in central Texas. The region is situated along the I-35 corridor and is home to the capital of Texas, major universities, teaching hospitals, and state parks.
