Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Monitor to join our team at the Ithaca City School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing routine non-teaching duties, including student supervision in school, on school property, and at school-related functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in supervising students during recreation periods, lunch periods, study halls, on field trips, before and after school periods, and during transportation of students.
  • Guide children safely across streets and intersections.
  • Maintain order in areas such as gymnasiums, locker rooms, swimming pools, and hallways.
  • Maintain classroom routines.
  • Maintain safety practices in and around school transportation vehicles and district buildings.
  • Oversee students passing between classes, in locker rooms, and on premises before and after school.
  • Issue athletic supplies and equipment.
  • Assist children in lower grades with wearing apparel.
  • Assist children in lower grades in the cafeteria, e.g., opening milk and carrying trays.
  • Perform clerical duties under close supervision.
  • Render basic first aid treatment when needed.
Requirements
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
  • Fingerprint clearance through New York State Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability.
  • Evidence of an open, collaborative style that fosters a sense of teamwork and common purpose.
  • Proven people skills and is an effective communicator with a sense of humor.
  • Willingness to become an active, engaged, and visible member of the Pal-Mac community.
  • A clear communicator in oral and written language, including electronic communication.
Working Conditions

The Monitor will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, staff, and parents. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on customer service and communication.
