Position Overview: The selected candidate will serve as an Advanced Practice Provider focused on delivering urology services in a rural clinic located in an underserved region. This role involves collaboration with a dedicated team that includes a physician and a physician assistant.

Employment Status: Salaried/Exempt

Weekly Hours: 40

Work Schedule: Monday to Thursday from 8 AM to 5 PM, and Friday from 8 AM to 12 PM

Patient Demographics: Outpatient care for a diverse age range from birth to elderly, primarily focusing on adult patients.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program or an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).

Licensure/Certification:

  • Physician Assistant: Must hold a valid PA license.
  • APRN License Types:
    • AGPNP/ANP: Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP for patients aged 13 years and older.
    • FNP: Family Nurse Practitioner for patients from birth to elderly.

Preferred Experience: Previous experience in urology is highly desirable.

Supervision: The Advanced Practice Provider will work under the guidance of a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by the Medical University of South Carolina Health.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • All certifications must be current and valid prior to the start date:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • DHEC and DEA licenses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct patient care through the following activities:
  • Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations.
  • Assess and treat patients based on clinical evaluations and diagnostic test results in accordance with practice agreements.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures as authorized by the Clinical Division Chief, including:
    • Catheter placements
    • Suprapubic tube changes
    • Urethral dilations
    • Aspiration of hydrocele
    • Penile injection therapy
  • Initiate referrals to other healthcare professionals and consult with supervising physicians as necessary.
  • Document and bill for services rendered.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and current research in clinical decision-making.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research.
  • Support compliance and regulatory activities within the organization.
  • Participate in professional development through continuing education and professional organizations.
  • Potentially mentor students from the Medical University of South Carolina enrolled in advanced practice programs.
  • Maintain all required licenses, certifications, and continuing education credits as mandated by state laws and organizational policies.

Physical Demands:

Job functions require the ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Candidates must be able to bend, kneel, climb stairs, and reach in all directions. Physical qualifications for respirator use and the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted are essential. Candidates should also be able to work in various environments, including dusty areas and confined spaces.
