Summary:
The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for ensuring the quality, continuity, and appropriateness of primary healthcare services at the Marin City Health and Wellness Center (MCHWC). This role involves close collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer to provide both clinical and administrative leadership, ensuring that patient care is efficient, effective, evidence-based, and delivered with compassion and cultural competence. The Chief Medical Officer also represents MCHWC in interactions with other agencies, medical groups, institutions, and the community. As a key member of the Management Team, this position works alongside the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer to achieve the strategic goals and performance measures of MCHWC.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct primary medical care to patients.
- Ensure a welcoming experience for all patients and clients, whether in person or via phone.
- Develop and maintain quality improvement and assurance programs related to patient care.
- Establish and approve treatment protocols.
- Consult with the Chief Executive Officer on clinical training needs for staff.
- Contribute to the development of clinical policies and the mission, goals, and philosophy of care for the Center.
- Supervise medical staff, including hiring, training, mentoring, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Oversee clinical assignments, rotations, and schedules.
- Conduct medical chart reviews and audits.
- Address patient grievances related to clinic operations and participate in peer reviews.
- Assist in the development and assessment of clinic plans and program goals, including budget input.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and grantor standards.
- Oversee the credentialing process for clinic staff in collaboration with administration.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and Board meetings as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversee the following positions: Behavioral Health Director, Director of Recovery & Homeless Services, Birth Center Director, Chiropractor, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Medical Assistant.
Qualifications:
- M.D. or D.O. degree with Board Certification in Family Practice.
- Current medical license to practice in California.
- Valid DEA Certificate.
- Current CPR (BLS) certification.
- Experience in an outpatient health clinic or community health center, particularly with underserved populations.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives.
- Experience in managing community health programs and supervising staff.
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records.
- Commitment to community health issues.

- Effective problem-solving skills and conflict management.
- Ability to understand and apply organizational guidelines and policies.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands of this role include a combination of standing, walking, and sitting, with occasional lifting and the need for visual and auditory communication.

Frequent travel may be necessary for site visits and meetings.
