Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Plant Operator to join our team at Airgas. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for processing gas cylinders in preparation for new gas production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sort and Evaluate Gas Cylinders: Sort incoming gas cylinders according to size and service, and evaluate their condition for processing.
  • Move Cylinders to Designated Areas: Move cylinders to designated processing areas, ensuring efficient and safe movement.
  • Scrape and Paint Cylinders: Scrape labels from cylinders and apply temperature coating to ensure proper preparation for filling.
  • Perform Visual Inspection: Conduct visual inspections of gas cylinders to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Install New Cylinder Valves: Install new cylinder valves in both low and high-pressure cylinders.
  • Maintain Cylinder Yard: Maintain the cylinder yard in a clean and orderly manner, storing cylinders in designated locations by service, size, and valve type.
  • Perform Valve and Cylinder Inventory: Conduct regular inventory of valves and cylinders to ensure accurate tracking.
  • Qualify to Operate Forklift: Qualify to operate a forklift and perform regular inspections to ensure safe operation.
  • Loading and Unloading: Load and unload compressed gas cylinders onto and off of cylinder pallets, as well as common carrier trucks and Airgas shuttles.
  • Maintenance of Equipment: Perform regular maintenance on cylinder prep equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Keep a Clean and Organized Work Area: Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety and quality standards.
  • Support Health and Safety and ISO Quality Programs: Support the management team in maintaining Health and Safety and ISO Quality programs.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Math Skills: Demonstrate basic math skills for accurate calculations and measurements.
  • Microsoft Office Applications: Possess basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Clear Writing and Communication: Ability to clearly write and communicate in English, including filling out reports and documents.
  • Reading and Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Pressure and Temperature Indicators: Ability to read pressure and temperature indicators.
  • Connecting and Disconnecting Filling Lines: Ability to connect and disconnect filling lines.
  • Physical Abilities: Possess the physical abilities to move gas cylinders, work in a team environment, and follow directions.
  • Work All Shifts: Ability to work all shifts, including subject to all weather conditions.
