As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing direct therapy to students with special needs, including development, implementation, and maintenance of designated instructional programs.
Key Responsibilities- Implement designated student services as detailed in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), including the number of hours per week and designated times.
- Complete assessment reports within mandated time frames.
- Communicate results of evaluation and specific recommendations of occupational therapy services to parents, educational staff, and students when appropriate, with mandated signed consent from the responsible party.
- Plan and develop therapeutic intervention goals that are educationally relevant to be integrated into the student's educational program.
- Conduct periodic reassessment of therapy objectives as indicated by student needs, determined to be educationally relevant.
- Monitor and collaborate with teaching and supervising other professionals and paraprofessionals involved in the implementation of occupational therapy intervention procedures.
- Document and maintain student progress reports in accordance with district and program guidelines.
- Participate in IEP meetings, as needed, to present information relevant to the student's therapy goals.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level, interests, and needs of the student.
- Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of occupational therapy services.
- Facilitate in-service education and professional development for related service/occupational therapy staff.
- Participate in training educational school staff in the use of assistive technology, such as adaptive equipment, and maintain appropriate documentation.
- Participate in all required meetings.
- Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in occupational therapy or a related field of study.
- Valid state occupational therapist (OT) license.
- Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in providing occupational therapy services.
- Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with autism-related disabilities and emotional disturbance.
- Advanced skill in working with students with diverse needs at various levels.
- Prior experience and highly knowledgeable in applied behavior analysis (ABA) preferred.
- Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making ability.
- Solid motivational skills and willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and new initiatives.
- Well-versed in the use of relevant technology, including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
