Job Summary:Under general supervision and following established procedures, the CT Technologist will operate CT equipment to acquire images for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. The successful candidate will be required to float among radiology clinics and divisions associated with BWH as needed.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate CT equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information according to departmental protocol.
- Prepare patients for exams, ensuring proper positioning and immobilization.
- Explain exams to patients, maintaining ethical standards and delivering patient care under scope of license/training.
- Collaborate with departmental and hospital personnel to maintain effective working relations and communication.
- Calibrate and verify equipment operation, notifying appropriate personnel of malfunctions and repairs needed.
- Execute paperwork and Radiology Information System functions as necessary for each patient exam.
- Perform venipuncture for contrast administration under radiologist direction, following hospital and departmental policies.
- Attend staff meetings, inservices, and maintain CEUs in accordance with Massachusetts State Licensure and A.R.R.T. requirements.
- May oversee and instruct personnel and technology students within the department.
- Prepare equipment rooms and supplies necessary for patient exams and daily use.
- Participate in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects within the department.
- Assume on-call coverage and remain flexible in shift coverage and overtime situations as needed.
- Rotate within department, divisions, and offsite clinics by shifts as required and needed.
- Transport and transfer patients using established procedures according to departmental guidelines.
- Use independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative under pressure in patient exams.
- Perform point-of-care creatinine testing at applicable sites upon completion of training.
- Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic technology; current Massachusetts State Radiologic Technologist license and ARRT registration or equivalent.
- Registered or eligible for certification in CT by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent required.
- BLS certification required; must meet and obtain within one year of start of employment.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients under physical and emotional stress.
- Analytical abilities necessary to acquire and utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, and procedures and cross-sectional anatomy.
- Ability to adapt to changing pace within the department with frequent interruptions.
- Presents a positive attitude and professional appearance.
- Physically capable of lifting, linen, supplies, patients, etc.
- Comprehensive understanding of computer operations relating to Digital Imaging, Radiology Information System, and Hospital Information Systems.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to diverse roles as a member of the department team.
- Aware of hazards within the department and adhere to safety standards established by BWH and regulatory agencies.
- Able to work in changing environments with reduced lighting, increased noise, temperature variances, unpleasant odors, etc.
- Communication skills sufficient to resolve conflicts and relay information concisely to staff, patients, and other hospital personnel.
- Duties include patient care responsibilities with subsequent exposure to human waste and similar unpleasant elements.
- Failure to follow established procedures and safety practices could result in exposure to radioactivity.
- Subject to frequent stressful situations.
- Lifting and transferring patients from table to stretcher.
- Periodic exposure to noise and cold environment plus poor lighting.
