Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CT Technologist to join our team at Brigham and Women's Hospital. As a CT Technologist, you will be responsible for operating CT equipment to acquire diagnostic images and information according to departmental protocol. You will ensure that patients are properly prepared, positioned, and immobilized, and use protective shields as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate CT equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information
  • Prepare patients for exams, including positioning and immobilizing them
  • Select proper imaging factors and image the designated portion(s) of the body
  • Explain exams to patients and maintain ethical standards
  • Deliver patient care under the scope of your license/training
  • Calibrate and verify the operation of all equipment used during the workday
  • Notify appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed
  • Execute paperwork and Radiology Information System functions as necessary for each patient exam
  • Perform venipuncture for purposes of contrast administration under the direction of a radiologist
  • Attend staff meetings, in-services, and maintain appropriate CEUs in accordance with Massachusetts State Licensure and A.R.R.T. requirements
  • May oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students within the department
  • Prepare the equipment room and supplies necessary for each patient and regular daily use
  • Stock and supply room as needed
  • Acknowledge and participate in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects carried on in the department
  • Assume responsibilities for on-call coverage and remain flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations as necessary
  • Rotate within department, divisions, and all off-site clinics, by shifts as required and needed
  • Transport and transfer patients using established procedures according to departmental guidelines
  • Use independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative under pressure in a variety of situations when performing patient exams
  • Perform point-of-care (POC) creatinine testing at applicable sites and upon completion of training

Qualifications:

Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic technology; possess a current Massachusetts State Radiologic Technologist license and be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent. Be Registered or eligible for certification in CT by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent is required. Must meet, successfully complete, and maintain the ARRT or equivalent CT certification and registration within one year of start of employment. 2-3 years' experience as a Radiologic technologist preferred with at least one year in cross-sectional anatomy courses. Must be BLS (Basic Life Support) certified. Must meet and obtain BLS certification within one year of start of employment

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:

Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress. Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, and procedures and cross-sectional anatomy. Work requires several weeks of training to acquire necessary familiarity with imaging procedures, techniques, and methods. Must have the ability to adapt to changing pace within the department, with frequent interruptions. Presents a positive attitude and a professional appearance. Must be physically capable of lifting, (linen, supplies, patients, etc.). Comprehensive understanding of computer operations relating to Digital Imaging, the Radiology Information System, and all Hospital Information Systems that integrate with the Department of Radiology relating to patient information and management (Epic, Order entry systems, PACS, etc.). Must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to diverse roles as a member of the department team. Must be aware of hazards within the department (ionizing radiation, universal precautions, etc.) and adhere to safety standards established by BWH and regulatory agencies. Able to work in changing environments (reduced lighting, increased noise, temperature variances, unpleasant odors, etc.). Communication skills sufficient to resolve conflicts, and relay information concisely to staff, patients, and other hospital personnel.

Working Conditions:

Duties include patient care responsibilities with subsequent exposure to human waste, and similar unpleasant elements. Failure to follow established procedures and safety practices could result in exposure to radioactivity. Subject to frequent stressful situations. Lifting and transferring patients from table to stretcher. Periodic exposure to noise and cold environment plus poor lighting.
