Job Description

**About the Role**

Thompson Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and executing construction inspection and testing assignments, directing field technicians, and reviewing field reports.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure all engineering work performed by individuals or under your direct supervision adheres to good engineering practice.
  2. Manage and execute construction inspection and testing assignments, directing field technicians on testing protocols.
  3. Consult with clients, other engineers, architects, vendors, etc., to determine the most practical and desirable engineering design in keeping with the budget.
  4. Monitor laboratory testing services for compliance with standards and specifications, managing an inventory of calibrated field and laboratory equipment.
  5. Select suitable materials and equipment in accordance with good engineering practices.
  6. Understand plans, industry codes, and standards, and project specifications for construction tolerances and compliance.
  7. Understand specifications for materials and equipment in a clear, concise manner.
  8. Anticipate information needed and take necessary action to obtain it.
  9. Prepare detailed engineering designs in accordance with good engineering practice, including cost estimates and schedule, and in compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and restrictions.
  10. Organize, schedule, and supervise the work of others to make the most efficient use of personnel and the allotted budget.
  11. Efficiently utilize various company resources to accomplish the intended work.
  12. Coordinate, supervise, check, and assume responsibility for all work done under your direction, including Engineer Associates, Designers, Drafter, and Technicians working on a project for which you are the Engineer of Record.
  13. Coordinate work with that of other designers, architects, estimators, purchasing personnel, management, etc., involved in the project.
  14. Manage CMT and CEI projects, completing work on time and within the allotted budget and resource estimate.
  15. Market TCO Companies' services to current and potential clients and participate in business development activities, providing completed project write-ups, and updated resume information as requested.
  16. Follow TCO company policies and procedures regarding safety and quality.
  17. Attend work on time and regularly.

Requirements

  1. A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution; however, those who have passed the registration exam are exempt from the requirement to have this degree.
  2. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Tennessee.
  3. A minimum of eight plus years of engineering experience.
  4. Demonstrated capability to perform at this level.
  5. The ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  6. A valid driver's license.
  7. Certification by ACI, ICC, NICET are preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Be willing to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed by the department.
  • Be able to operate a computer and sit for long periods of time.
  • Work in high grounds and high open buildings.
  • Work outside for extended periods in the heat and cold.
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE for hazardous materials.
  • Have a valid driver's license and be able to drive company vehicle if needed.
