The Association of Academic Museums & Galleries is dedicated to enhancing the educational mission of museums within academic institutions. This role is pivotal in fostering a rich learning environment through innovative educational programming and community engagement.

Role Summary:

The Museum Education Specialist will collaborate closely with the Director of Education to advance the museum's educational objectives. This position entails identifying ways to enrich university courses through curated exhibitions and artifacts from the collection, while also developing initiatives aimed at K-12 education.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the execution of museum programs, including logistical management and setup for events.
  2. Design and implement K-12 educational initiatives, creating tailored lesson plans and engaging tours for students.
  3. Facilitate outreach to university faculty, providing resources and support to enhance educational offerings.
  4. Collaborate with Visitor Services to produce educational materials, including family guides and exhibition brochures.
  5. Generate and manage digital content, including photography, video production, and social media engagement to promote educational programs.
  6. Support administrative tasks related to artist compensation and program logistics.

Position Type: Temporary, with a duration of 11 months.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with occasional evening and weekend commitments.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in museum education (1-3 years) is required. Candidates should possess strong public speaking abilities, management skills for educational programs, and familiarity with technology and social media platforms.

Preferred Experience:

3-5 years of experience in educational roles within a museum setting is preferred.
