Key Responsibilities


The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for the comprehensive coordination of nursing care, which includes direct patient interaction, education for patients and families, and managing transitions of care.

The NP enhances professional nursing practices across various settings and throughout the care continuum to address the needs of patients and their families.

Operating within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, the NP is accountable for planning, executing, assessing, and communicating all aspects of nursing care for assigned patients.


Professional Leadership:
The ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice serve as the foundation for the NP's practice. The NP demonstrates leadership through roles such as mentoring, participating in committees, and engaging in quality improvement initiatives. The NP delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal responsibility, and resource availability. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. Familiarity with electronic medical record systems is preferred. Flexibility in working hours, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends, is required. The NP must be adept at adapting to unpredictable situations within the workplace and exhibit strong leadership and critical thinking abilities.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.


All newly hired registered nurses must provide evidence of completing a baccalaureate degree in nursing within five years from their start date.


One year of experience as an RN in a relevant care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is preferred.


Current RN licensure as per state regulations is mandatory.

Maintaining Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) competency from recognized programs is essential.

Additional state licensure and/or specialty certifications may be required based on the work area.

Work Schedule

This position is full-time, with 12-hour shifts and variable start times. Weekend work may be required based on call needs.
